Benelux trains - what types are there?

A range of trains operate on the Benelux network, all offering excellent facilities whether you're travelling for business or leisure:

Thalys

Look out for the distinctive red, high speed trains that connect France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Thalys trains also offer excellent airport connections from Schipol (Amsterdam), Brussels and Charles de Gaulle (Paris). On board, you can enjoy comfortable seats and first or standard class travel, with free newspapers, magazines and a snack served at your seat if you travel first-class. Excellent buffet car services are available if you're travelling standard class.

TGV

Travelling at up to 320kph, the TGV trains (Train à Grand Vitesse) which run between the major French cities and towns can whisk you from Lille to Brussels. You can now also travel direct from Paris to Luxembourg on the new high-speed TGV Est Européen line, which opened on 10 June 2007. With their brightly coloured Christian Lacroix design and special facilities for families, business travellers and wheelchair users, the TGV Est trains are a pleasure to use.

Citynightline

Enjoy the adventure of being carried through the night to your destination with Citynightline. These overnight trains link major cities in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with services between Amsterdam and Zurich and Amsterdam and Munich.

Make yourself comfortable in a reclining seat, a two or four-bed compartment or a deluxe upstairs cabin - complete with shower, toilet and panoramic window. Sleep peacefully and arrive refreshed and ready to enjoy your destination.

InterCity and local trains

Take an InterCity train between major cities in The Netherlands. Meanwhile local and regional trains connect major cities with other destinations.

ICE Trains

These high-speed trains connect Benelux destinations with Germany. Find out more about ICE.
