You wouldn’t really fly from France to Italy would you? Surely not with the new TGV France Italy service eager to take you through stunning Alpine scenery all the way from Paris to Milan. That’s right, there’s a new train service on the tracks and here’s 5 great reasons to try it out.
1 - Great places to stop off along the way
Travel to the home of the
Turin Shroud in 5½ hours or the fashion capital of the world,
Milan, in just under 7 hours. Once in Milan hop on board a local train, head to nearby Venice and experience the world-famous gondolas.
2 - Save yourself some pennies
The beauty of travelling by train is that there’s no expensive airport transfers to pay for. There’s also no extra costs for your luggage – on the new TGV France Italy service you can take two suitcases each without having to pay any extra. A single standard-class fare starts from only £23 per person.
3 - Going skiing?
The TGV France Italy service is perfect for budding and expert skiers alike. The route passes through some of the best ski resorts in the French Alps, Bardonecchia and
Oulx are ideal bases for experiencing nearby resorts. Going skiing via rail means you’ll beat the crowds and be on the slopes before you know it.
4 - Awesome, and we mean awesome, views
We don’t think we can say this enough, the views from the train are simply stunning. The train winds its merry way past charming rustic villages and through jaw-dropping valleys, all the time with the majestic Alps in the background. You won’t get that from a tiny window on a plane.
5 - Are you sitting comfortably?
You will be if you’re onboard a TGV France Italy train. The trains offer spacious seats, all with head and foot rests, and more legroom than you can shake a stick at. You’ll also be travelling in style – Christian Lacroix designed them.
The TGV France Italy service is available to book from today, Monday 21 November, for travel dates from 11 December 2011.
Will you be on board?

Re: Why would you fly?
I usually go to Italy by train. Last year my daughter had booked flights out and back when her friend cried off.
So the reason I flew was that my wife had my arm up my back and the ticket was paid for!!

Re: Why would you fly?
Hi Alun - I'm sorry you're having trouble making your booking and we understand how frustrating this must be for you. We are chasing SNCF regularly to try to find more information. They are still waiting for their timetables to be confirmed by the track operator. As soon as we receive any additional information on this, we'll post on our service updates page, Facebook and Twitter.
