Fantastic news if you’re looking to take a high speed Thalys service into Germany this summer. There are now three new destinations within easy reach of Paris and Brussels.
From 29 August 2011 one daily return service will connect Brussels and Paris with Dusseldorf, Duisburg and Essen. Fares start from just £17 one-way in Standard Class and £26 one-way in First Class.
Rhineside city Dusseldorf is a fabulous place to visit. Often overlooked in favour of the better-known sights in cities like Berlin and Cologne, it’s an exciting, vibrant place full of buzzing bars, fantastic museums and cutting edge modern architecture.
Essen, Germany’s seventh-largest city, was the country’s official cultural capital for 2010, and must surely be the only place in the world where you can take in a
Bauhaus-style colliery. Nearby
Duisburg is also worth a visit for its fabulous museums and galleries, including a huge collection of sculpture at the
Lehmbruck Museum and the striking Museum of Modern Art, housed in a huge old converted harbour building.
Tickets to these three great cities are available to book now. Just use the search box on the right hand side of the page.

Re: Rail news: Thalys can now take you to three new destinations
Uhm, nice news but it does strike me as odd that all of those 'new destinations' are in the same region which means that the rest of Germany is still 'unaccessible'. I was looking forward to maybe reading that there's a train now to the south of Germany.
I do however, realise that Thaly's are Belgian...so doubt there will ever be one to South Germany. ;)

It said that Paris to Dusseldorf starts at 17 british pounds but I pulled up a fare for the 30th of August and it was 106 british pounds!!

Hi Sylvia. £17 is the lead-in fare, and subject to availability. These cheaper fares generally sell out pretty fast. All I can suggest is trying a few different times and dates. Good luck!

Also, the Paris - Dusseldorf service leaves at 18.01 daily, so make sure you search for an evening train. All other returned results will involve a change and be more expensive.
