Stations and airports in Frankfurt
Overview
Frankfurt has three major train stations – the main station (Hauptbahnhof), the south station (Südbahnhof) and the airport (Flughafen Fernbahnhof). The Main is the most important for international travellers – in fact, it’s the most important rail transport hub in Germany and also serves as a major hub for all Rhine-Main S-Bahn (overland lines), two U-Bahn (underground lines), plus several tram and bus lines.
Frankfurt’s main airport is the second-busiest in Europe (after Heathrow). A second smaller airport, some distance from the city, is used by budget airlines.

Getting to Frankfurt by plane
Frankfurt/Main Airport
The largest airport in continental Europe is around 8 miles (12km) southwest of the city centre. S-Bahn trains S8 or S9 depart from the regional station in Terminal 1 to Frankfurt. Regular buses stop in front of both terminals.
See the airport’s website for more »
Frankfurt Hahn Airport
connects to the city:
Frankfurt Hahn airport is around 75 miles (120km) west of Frankfurt, in the Hunsrück area. This airport is a hub for budget airline Ryanair, which operates a bus service into the city from the bus station at Terminal 1.

Seat reservations for InterRail pass holders
Please note that a reservation alone is NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL unless used alongside a valid InterRail pass.
If you already have a valid InterRail pass, or are planning to buy one, selecting 'Reservation' allows you to pre-book a seat on a specific train.
Why do I need to make a seat reservation when I already have an InterRail pass?
Seat reservations are compulsory on most high speed and overnight trains and are not included in the price of an InterRail pass. Find out more in our
Rail Pass Guide
