A host of the World Alpine Championships, the beautiful village of St Anton ranks alongside St Moritz, Chamonix and Whistler as one of the world's first-class ski and snowboarding destinations.
It's a great resort for... experienced skiers and party animals. There are steep moguls and excellent powder, as well as fantastic off-piste potential. The thrilling descent from the Valluga peak takes you right down into the village. And the challenging skiing is matched by an equally exhilarating nightlife.
For après ski For eats, choose from cosy cafés to sophisticated hotel restaurants and everything in between, most of which are open until the early hours. The bars to be in are the Krazy Kanguruh for hip hop on the mountainside and the Mooserwirt. For live music, head for Piccadilly and, to drink until dawn, settle in at Kartouche.
Good to know There's plenty to do off the ski slopes, including ice skating, sleigh rides and a 4.2km illuminated sled course. For soothing tired muscles, try the Arlberg-well.com leisure complex for time out in the spa.
