Strasbourg by rail
Strasbourg is as little as 2 hours 20 minutes from Paris on the high speed TGV Est route. It means a city break to Alsace is easy, without the worry of expensive and limited flights to Strasbourg. At Strasbourg station, you’ve but a short 450yard (400m) walk east to the Grande Île. While buses, trams and taxis are available to take you beyond the Old Town centre.
About the city
As the capital of the Alsace region close to the border with Germany, Strasbourg is a blend of cultures. And this is reinforced in the present day, being the seat of many European institutions. Strasbourg’s long and rich history is right at its heart – the historic Grande Île (Grand Island) was the first city centre in France to be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
