Few countries are suited to rail travel quite as perfectly as Switzerland. Home to some of the world’s most beautiful scenic trains, such as the Glacier Express, which winds its way through the Swiss Alps from Zermatt to Chur, Davos and St Moritz, and the Golden Pass line, connecting the lakes of Lucerne, Interlaken and Montreux. No country in Europe is quite so picture perfect. It’s well connected too: High speed TGV Lyria services can take you from Paris to Geneva or Lausanne in around three and a half hours, and Zurich in four and a half. From there, why not head to Lugano on the Italian border, the beautiful city of Basel, or picturesque Bern, the Swiss capital?
