Head to the Netherlands by high speed rail and you’ll discover there’s far more to this pancake-flat country than windmills, clogs, canals and coffee shops. It’s easy to head to the buzzing capital Amsterdam: just take a Eurostar service across the Channel, then a Thalys train onto the ‘Dam. And don’t stop there: Holland’s a small place, perfectly suited to exploring by train. Head to Rotterdam to see some of Europe’s most bizarre modernist architecture, or Maastricht, the oldest city in the country, full of underground caves and medieval squares. There’s never been a better time to go Dutch.
