Fast, stylish travel to France's major cities
Speed from city to city on the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse). The fastest European train service, TGV trains run at speeds of up to 320 kph (200 mph). The TGV network – known as the LGV – connects all of France’s major cities.
These state-of-the-art trains are luxurious as well as convenient. Many have designer interiors and all offer refreshments, family facilities and plenty of luggage space.
| Where do TGV trains operate? |

The TGV network links Paris with other major cities in France and other European countries.
From Paris, the major branches run:
- south towards Marseilles
- south west towards Bordeaux
- west towards Le Mans
- north towards Lille
- east towards Strasbourg
The high speed network links France to:
- London (via the Eurostar)
- Amsterdam
- Stuttgart
- Luxembourg
- Zurich

| What kind of seating/accommodation is available? |
|
There are 4 classes to choose from on TGV trains:
- Standard class: comfortable seats with access to a buffet car
- Standard class pro: a welcome service at the platform at some destinations
- First class: a bit more space, and power points at seats
- First class pro: access to business lounges at some stations, plus a welcome service and cold meals at your seat on some routes
Seats and tables
TGV trains offer several types of seats. When you book, you can choose from:
Single: a single seat facing a seat-back with a drop-down table (First class only)
- Duo: 2 seats next to each other, facing seat-backs with drop-down tables.
- Club duo: 2 seats facing each other across a table (First class only)
- Club Quatro: 2 pairs of seats facing each other across a table
All seats are comfortable with armrests and tables. If you want a little more leg room, go for First class.
Power points
In First class, you can plug in your laptop or phone charger at your seat. Power points fit European 2-pin plugs, so make sure you have an adapter.
In Standard class you won’t generally have a power point.
Double-decker services
Some TGV services use double-decker trains known as TGV Duplex. Choose the upper deck for fantastic views or the lower deck if you don’t want to climb stairs.

| Is food available on the train? |
|
Hot and cold meals are available from the buffet car on TGV trains, except on very short journeys. You can also get drinks and snacks from vending machines.
On some services, First class pro passengers can buy a cold meal to be served at their seats.
You’re also welcome to bring your own food and drink onto the train, including beer and wine.

| Are there facilities for children on the train? |

There are baby changing facilities on all TGV trains and bottle warming facilities are also available.
You can get extra privacy and space for the kids to play by booking a family space. These are sets of 4 seats slightly separate from the rest of the passengers, arranged around a folding table with a games board.

| Are there disabled facilities on the train? |
|
Disabled facilities include:
- wheelchair and companion spaces in First class
- small wheelchairs for use on board (please request once on board)
- disabled toilets
You can use your own wheelchair on board if it measures 125x75cm or less.

| What special facilities are there on board? |
|
TGV trains are getting a stylish makeover from interior designer Christian Lacroix. The new design of bold colours, asymmetric shapes and luxury fabrics has been introduced on many of the trains, and more are to follow.

| How much luggage can you bring? |
|
Each passenger can bring:
- 2 bags/suitcases
- 1 piece of hand luggage
There are spaces for larger items, like skis or surfboards, at the ends of the carriages. You should label every item clearly with your first and last name.

| Can you take bicycles on board? |
|
You can take folding bikes free of charge (when in a bike bag no larger than 120x90cm).
Some TGV trains have space for full-sized bikes. Bike spaces cost around £9.50 and must be reserved when you book your seat.

| Are pets allowed on the train? |
- dogs must be muzzled and on a lead
- small pets must be carried in a pet carrier (no larger than 45x30x25cm and no heavier than 65kg)
Each passenger can bring 2 dogs or 2 pet carriers (or one of each).
Guide dogs are always permitted.
