TGV Lyria is a great alternative to European plane travel. Why would you fly to Switzerland when these high speed trains can take you there comfortably and affordably in just a few hours?

Taking a TGV Lyria is better for the planet too. The carbon footprint is tiny compared to going by plane. And it’s kinder to your pocket. Just think of all the money you’ll save on airport transfers when you alight right in the heart of your destination city!

Paris to Switzerland at high speed

TGV Lyria runs at speeds of up to 200mph from Paris to cities across Switzerland including Geneva, Zurich, Interlaken and Lausanne. Plus, during ski season, the Lausanne line extends to Brig in the snow-capped Alps via charming Swiss destinations like Montreux.

To take TGV Lyria is to experience train travel at it’s best. These are among the fastest trains in the world. Seats are spacious and have armrests and individual tables throughout. While carriages on the new TGV Est line from Paris to Zurich were designed by Christian Lacroix.

There are seasonal services to Brig:

Winter:
Paris to Brig runs on a Friday and Saturday from late December through until mid-April.
Lille to Brig runs on a Saturday from late December through until mid-April.

Summer:
Paris to Brig runs three times a week from early July until late August.

From 9 December 2012 new routes from Geneva to the South of France will be available.

Validating your ticket in France

If you’re travelling on a train in France you’ll need to validate your ticket. Look out for the yellow machines marked compostage de billets – usually located just before or on the platform – and insert your ticket in the slot. Inspectors on the train will check your ticket during your journey, and if it isn’t validated you’re likely to face a fine.

You may also need to validate your ticket when travelling within other European countries. Look out for validation machines in the station or on the platform, and if you’re not sure check with station staff.
