Trenitalia Frecce Train Guide

‘Frecce’ is Italian for ‘Arrows’, and as you’d expect, these superfast Trenitalia services are by far the quickest way to make your way between Italy’s main cities. This extensive network offers fast travel between major tourist destinations, as well as easy access to some of the country’s hidden gems.
 
Speedy and comfortable services
The Frecce fleet is made up of the following services:
  • Frecciarossa (Red Arrow) trains, running on high speed tracks connecting Turin, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Salerno.
  • Frecciargento (Silver Arrow) trains, running on high speed and conventional tracks connecting Rome with northeastern and southern Italy.
  • Frecciabianca (White Arrow) trains connect Turin/Milan to Venice/Udine/Trieste; Milan/Genova to Pisa and Rome; Venice/Turin/Milan/Bologna along the Adriatic coast down to Bari/Lecce/Taranto.
All have spacious, air conditioned, non-smoking carriages. The fastest trains are called Frecciarossa, which means ‘Red Arrow’.

These trains can travel on high speed lines up to 300km/h: Turin – Milan – Bologna – Florence – Rome – Naples – Salerno. Frecciargento and Frecciabianca can travel  up to 250km/h.
 
Frequent trains for fast connections
Frecciarossa runs an impressive 68 daily connections between Milan and Rome, with a superfast journey time of under three hours on the non-stop routes. At peak times these services runup to every 10 minutes. Frequent and regular connections also run between Rome and Venice and Rome and Naples.
