Imagine leaving Paris under a blanket of stars – only to wake next morning to the endless blue skies of the Cote d’Azur… Sounds good doesn’t it? Well it’s hard to top the Lunea for a truly dreamy start to your holiday.

These overnight trains are perfect if you’re travelling from London to Paris on Eurostar and then deep into France. Leave work on a rainy London evening and you could be enjoying a freshly baked croissant in Cannes, Nice or Perpignan on the sun-kissed Mediterranean the next morning…

The Lunea is a real time saver too. You’ll spend most of the journey in the land of nod. And after a good night in your air-conditioned compartment, you’ll be ready to explore the city as soon as you set foot on the platform.

Planning your journey

Lunea services run to cities across South, East and West France. Trains make limited stops between 12:00 and 05:30, so you can be sure of an uninterrupted night’s sleep. Below are details of some popular journeys:

Services are daily, except Bourg St Maurice which runs daily from December to March and at weekends from April to November. Times and service details may vary. Please double check all train times when you book. Prices are per person based on the cheapest available return adult fare in a 6 berth couchette.

You’ll need to reserve your berth on Lunea trains. Bookings can be made up to 3 months before you depart.

Validating your ticket in France

If you’re travelling on a train in France you’ll need to validate your ticket. Look out for the yellow machines marked compostage de billets – usually located just before or on the platform – and insert your ticket in the slot. Inspectors on the train will check your ticket during your journey, and if it isn’t validated you’re likely to face a fine.

You may also need to validate your ticket when travelling within other European countries. Look out for validation machines in the station or on the platform, and if you’re not sure check with station staff.
